Dal Curry / Paruppu Kulambu is a very popular dish is all wedding lunches and it is also extremely healthy and nutritious and rich in protein. This is quick and very easy to make I always make this whenever I dont have enough time to Cook or when i am bored. Dal with potato fry is a stunning combination with rice and also goes excellent with Chapathi.

INGREDIENT

1 Cup

Thoor Dal / Thuvaram Paruppu
10 Shallots / small onions
3
Cloves of garlic
3Green chilies
1
Tomato
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp Hing / Asafoetida
1 tsp Chili powder
Salt to taste
Water as required

To Temper
1 tsp
Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
3 Dry Red chilies

Curry leaves

Cooking Method

Step 1) In a pressure Cooker add the cleaned Thoor Dal, add enough water, shallots, garlic, green Chillies, turmeric powder, hing/asafoetida, chilli powder, salt to taste and cook for 4 whistles until the dal is fully done (100% cooked) we dont want any chunks

Step 2) To temper heat 1 tsp oil, once the oil is hot enough add mustard seeds once you hear the popping sound add dry red chilies , curry leaves and turn off the heat .Add the tempering to the cooke dal and mix well.

Note:
You can adjust the consistency as per your taste.(for Chapathi make it a little thicker and for rice the dal tastes good when it is little thinner)
