Palak Chicken Recipe

Written By Angela Steffi on Monday, December 12, 2016 | 10:26:00 PM

Palak Chicken is a Delicious and healthy curry recipe in which chicken is added to the silky smooth spinach base. Palak Chicken combines the all the benefits of Spinach and the deliciousness of chicken. Spinach is loaded with lot of minerals and nutrients but many of us don't like the taste of spinach so the addition of chicken to the recipe makes the dish more appealing and takes to the next level. I really hate spinach before but now after trying this curry with chicken i fell in love with this spinach chicken and make very often. You can substitute the chicken with paneer and make a vegetarian version.

Serving Size          :  4 people

Preparation Time : 5 minutes

Cooking Time       : 25 minutes

Difficulty: Spice Level:

Quantity Ingredients for Palak Chicken Recipe
1/2 kg Chicken
1/4 kgSpinach

For Curry
2 Tbsp Oil

2 Bay leaves , 1 Cinnamon stick, 3 Cloves
1 Tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
Green Chilies
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tspChili powder
1 tspCoriander powder
1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
1Onion
1 Tomato
1 tsp Kasoori Methi leaves / dried fenugreek leaves
2 tbspCream

Salt to taste

Cooking Method

Step 1) Blanching the Spinach:
First lets start by blanching the spinach.I have used baby spinach if you are using regular spinach remove the stem if it is very hard. Rinse the spinach in water for a couple of times and add it to the hot water. Cook it for 2-3 minutes without placing the lid. After 2 minutes turn off the heat , drain the water completely and add the spinach to a blender and grind it to a very smooth paste. Keep it aside.

Step 2) Making Base for the curry:
Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaves, cinnamon stick and cloves . Give it a stir and add then add finely chopped onions, some salt to speed up the cooking process and saute the onions until golden brown.

Step 3) Masalas for Palak Chicken:
Once the onions turn golden add ginger garlic paste, green chilies, turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilli powder and garam masala. mix it well and then add chopped tomato.Add some water to prevent the masalas from burning and cook until the tomato turns soft and mushy.

Step 4) Adding Chicken:
Once the tomato turns soft add the chicken pieces and coat it well with the masala. I have used chicken thigh for this recipe because the chicken thigh stays soft and tender after cooking.Cook until the chicken is 70-80% done.Add water if required.

Step 5) Making palak Chicken:
Once the chicken is almost done add the pureed spinach and mix well with the chicken and cook for 5 more minutes. At the end add kasoori methi (crush it with your hands and add it to the curry) .Finally add cream to get rich and silky base.Mix it once and turn off the heat.
