Orange Chicken Recipe

Orange chicken is a mix of sweet and sour sauce coated on crispy fried chicken.It is very popular in Panda Express and it is from the Chinese cuisine. I tasted this delicious Orange chicken recipe from Panda express for the first time and fell love with this sour and tangy sauce. I go to Panda express very often just to have this orange chicken then later i bough the ready made sauce from stores and made but i was not satisfied with the sauce because it had lot of preservatives and had a strong pungent smell which i didn't like.So i tried making orange sauce at home.
I got the sauce recipe from my friend Gia from China . When i Tried for the first time it was a huge hit and everyone loved the recipe, so from then on i started to make this delicious Orange Chicken at home which is very easy, healthy and mouthwatering. It  tastes similar to the one which we buy from Panda express because this recipe was given to be my an authentic Chinese person who loves cooking. Quantity Ingredients for Orange Chicken Recipe
1/2 kg Chicken without bones

For frying the chicken 
1/4 cup All purpose flour /Maida
1/4 cup Corn flour / Corn starch

Salt & pepper

For Orange Sauce
1 cupOrange juice
1 tsp Grated ginger
1 tsp Grated Garlic
1/2 tsp Chilli flakes
1 tbsp Soy Sauce
1 tbsp Vinegar
2 tbsp  Honey
1 tbsp Corn starch + 2 tbsp water for slurry 
1/2 tsp Orange zest

For Garnishing

Sesame seeds , spring Onions

Cooking Method

Step 1) In a mixing bowl beat egg and the add the chicken pieces and coat well.I have used boneless chicken pieces, thigh meat tastes best with this recipe.
Then season it with salt and pepper.After seasoning add corn starch and all purpose flour and ix well with the chicken.Make sure all the sides of the chicken pieces are nicely coated with the flour mixture.

Step 2) Fry the chicken in oil on a medium temperature until nice and crisp.Once the chicken is fully cooked and turns crispy on the outside drain the excess oil and take it off from the oil and keep it aside.

Step 3) How to make Orange Sauce for Orange Chicken ? 
In a pan heat oil and add minced Ginger, Garlic and chili flakes , give it a stir and add orange juice, Soy sauce, vinegar and honey (to balance the taste) ,you can also add sugar if you prefer.mix nicely and let the juice come to boil.


Once the juice starts bubbling add slurry (dissolve 1 tbsp of corn flour in some water and add it to the orange sauce) to thicken the sauce.Also add some orange zest (grate the skin of orange and add it to the sauce) to get nice lively flavor and taste.Allow the sauce to thicken a bit


Once the orange sauce thickens add the fried chicken ad coat it well with the sauce and cook it for 2 more minutes and turn off the heat.Finally add some sesame seeds and spring onions for garnishing and serve.


That's it our sweet and tangy orange chicken is ready to be served with Fried rice or jasmine Rice. You can make this sauce in advance and keep it in fridge for a week so taht whenever we make chicen fries we have coat the leftover chicken with is orange sauce and enjoy. This recipe is very sililar to the one which we get in Panda Express Orange Chicken and is much healthier than any stor bough orange chicken.

    For frying the chicken :
  • 1/2 kg Chicken without bones
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 cup All purpose flour /Maida
  • 1/4 cup Corn flour / Corn starch
  • Salt and pepper
  • For Orange Sauce:
  • 1 cup Orange juice
  • 1 tsp Grated ginger
  • 1 tsp Grated Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli flakes
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 1/2 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 tbsp Corn starch + 2 tbsp water for slurry
  • 11/2 tsp Orange zest
  • For Garnishing:
  • Sesame seeds , spring Onions
  1. Coat the chiekn with flour and fry the pieces until crisp
  2. Make orange sauce.
  3. Add the fried chicken and mix well.
  4. Garnish and serve it hot with Rice
