|Quantity||Ingredients for Coconut Chutney|
|1 cup||Grated coconut (use fresh coconut)|
|3 tbsp||Roasted Channa Dal (Pottu Kadalai)|
|1/4 tsp||Mustard seeds|
|1/4 tsp||Urad dal|
|2||Dry red chilies|
|1 strand||Curry leaves|
Step 1) Grinding:
In a blender add grated coconut ,always use fresh coconut for best results (do not use desiccated coconut), also add roasted channa dal, a small piece of ginger, green chilies, salt and required water (add less at the beginning and we can add more while grinding ). Transfer this to a bowl.
Now to temper heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, once the seeds splutters add urad dal, dry red chilies and curry leaves. Mix it once and add it to the ground coconut mixture and mix well.

Coconut chutney is an excellent side for most of the south Indian breakfast recipes like Idli, dosa ,pongal, vada, chapathi and poori. This coocnut chutney can be made quickly with few basic ingredients like cococnut, roasted channa dal, green chilies and ginger.A good chutney makes the breakfast sound great.
- For Coconut Chutney Masala
- 1 cup grated cococnut
- 3 tbsp roasted chann dal
- 1 inch ginger
- 3 green chilies
- To Temper
- 1 tbsp of oil
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp urad dal
- 2 dry red chilies
- 1 spring curry leaves
- Grind coconut, roasted chann dal, ginger, green chilies , salt with some water
- Temper and ad dit to the chutney
- Our Coconut chutney is ready to be served Idli, dosa, vada and pongal
