Chicken Tikka Recipe

Chicken Tikka is a popular Indian recipe traditionally cooked in a clay oven " Tandoor Oven".Since it is not feasible to have tandoor oven at home I have made the recipe in oven and on stove top.   Chicken Tikka is nothing but small seasoned pieces of chicken cooked on a skewer at a high temperature so that all the flavors are locked within the chicken pieces. This recipe is quite easy to make and burnt and the smoky flavor makes the dish more appetizing. Since it is cooked on a high temperature the outside of the chicken kabab gets nice crispy coating while the inside remains soft and juicy.
You can enjoy this chicken Tikka Kebab as an appetizer or you can continue to make chicken tikka masala with this gorgeous chicken tikka. 

Chicken-Tikka-Recipe

Serving Size           : 6 people 

Marination Time    : 30 minutes - Overnight

Quantity Ingredients for Chicken Tikka Recipe
For Marination
4 tbsp thick Yogurt / Curd
1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
1/2 tspTurmeric powder
1 tsp Cumin powder
1 tspGaram masala powder
1 tbsp Kashmiri Chili powder
1 tbsp Lemon juice

required salt
1/4 tsp Pepper
1/2 kg Boneless chicken pieces
1 Capsicum / Bell pepper
Onion

Cooking Method


Step 1) Marinade:
Into a mixing bowl add yogurt, ginger garlic paste, Turmeric powder, cumin powder, garam masala, chili powder, lemon juice , salt and pepper. After adding all the ingredients mix it nicely. 


Step 2)
Add boneless Chicken pieces, Bell peppers and onions to the masala mixture and coat well with the mixture. Onions, bell peppers and chicken - equal size . 
Let it marinate for minimum 30 -60 minutes, for best results marinate it overnight in the refrigerator.


Step 3) After marinating the chicken arrange them on a skewer,  alternately place the bell peppers and the onions.


Step 4) Oven:
Preheat the oven to 450 F and bake it for 10 minutes on one side and then flip it to the other side and bake for 10 -15 minutes. Once the chicken is fully done broil it for another 2 minutes to get nice color on the chicken pieces. Elevate the chicken pieces from touching the pan , to prevent the chicken boiling from its own juices. 


Step 5) Stove top:
Heat an iron pan and grease with oil, Place the chicken skewers and cook until the chicken is fully done, make sure to flip them in between to ensure even cooking.


That's it our delicious chicken Tikka is ready, Squeeze a little bit of lemon juice on the top before serving. You can use this chicken to make lot of recipes like Chicken Tikka masala, Butter Chicken and even you use this chicken to make chicken masala curry. All the recipes tastes wonderful with this delicious chicken tikka.

Notes:
  • Pat dry the chicken pieces to get rid of excess moisture.
  • If you are using wooden skewers for the oven then soak it for 20 -30 minutes before baking, otherwise the stick may get burnt. 
  • Broiling the chicken gives nice color to the chicken Tikka.
  • Do not bake it for a very long time, chicken may turn hard.
  • While cooking on a stove top brush a couple of times with oil to get extra crispiness and taste.
  • squeeze a little bit of lemon before serving.

Ingredients:
    For Butter Chicken Base:
  • 4 tbsp thick Yogurt
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala powder
  • 1 tbsp Kashmiri Chili powder
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • required salt
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 kg Boneless chicken pieces
  • 1 Capsicum / Bell pepper
  • 1 Onion


  • Instructions:
    1. In a mixing bowl add the masalas and mix well
    2. Add chicken, bell peppers and oniona nd combine well with the masalas
    3. Arrange the marinated chicken on a skewer and cook until the chicken is fully done
    4. Our Chicken Tikka is ready to be served.
