Mutton Kola Urundai / Mutton Kofta Recipe

Mutton Kola Urundai / Mutton Kofta Recipe is an awesome starter recipe which is very famous in South Indian , this recipe is made with minced goat meat and seasoned with special masala which makes the dish unique and aromatic. We can add this fried kofta balls to a simple curry and transform it into delicious kola urundai kulambu which goes excellent with rice. Lets get started.

Quantity Ingredients for Mutton Kofta Recipe
1/4 kg Minced goat meat (Mutton) (250 gram)

For Masala
1 tspFennel Seeds
1/2 inchCinnamon
2Cloves
1 Cardamom
1 inch Ginger
Garlic cloves
Green Chilies

For Mutton Kofta
1 tbsp Oil
1/4 tspTurmeric powder
1 tspChili powder
Onion (finely chopped)
2 tbspRoasted channa dal flour( pottu kadalai maavu)

Salt to taste 

Coriander leaves 

Oil for frying 

Cooking Method


Step 1) Grind fennel seeds, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom to a fine powder. Then add ginger, garlic and green chilies and grind it again.


Step 2) Heat oil in a pan and add the minced meat (i bout it from stores) we can remove the bones and grind it in mixie as well.
Now add the masalas -turmeric powder, chili powder and the freshly ground masala for step 1 , required salt and cook for 5 minutes.


Step 3) once done transfer the cooked meat into a mixie and grind well. If there is any water left after cooking the meat strain the water completely and add only the meat. Add finely chopped onion and some coriander leaves. Check for salt and if required add more.


Step 4) Now to bind everything together add roasted channa dal powder (pottu kadadalai maavu) and mix well, if there is more water left add a little more of flour to bind everything together.
Now make small balls out of it. We get approximately 10 kola urundai from 1/4 kg meat.


Step 5) Once the oil is medium hot place the kofta one by one and fry until all the sides are crispy and golden.


That's it our Mutton Kofta balls are ready to be enjoyed with rice or can be served as appetizer. Please do try this recipe at home and share it with your friends and family. Happy Cooking !!!!
