Kai Murukku / Suthu Murukku

Kai Murukku also known as suthu murukku is a traditional snack recipe of south India distributed during festivals and functions , This kai murukku is a perfect combination for tea and coffee.  Lets see how to make this super crispy arisi murukku.

Makes          : 10-12
Prep Time   : 20 min
Cook Time  : 25 min

Quantity Ingredients for making Kai Murukku
1 cupRaw Rice 
2 tbsp Ulunthu maavu /  urad dal flour
2 tbsp Butter
3/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp Sesame seeds
pinch of Asafoetida
6-7 tbsp  Water

Oil for frying

Cooking Method


Step 1) Wash and soak raw rice in water for 2 hours, drain the water and spread it on a towel and let it dry for 20 minutes. Transfer it to a blender and powder them well. Pass it through a sieve and keep it aside.

Step 2) Dry roast 1/2 cup of urad dal in a pan and transfer it to a blender and powder them finely. Pass it through a sieve , we just need 2 tbsp of (ulunthu )flour .

Step 3) Into a mixing bowl add rice flour, urad dal flour, sesame seeds, salt, melted butter , required water and knead it into a smooth dough. 

Step 4) Make murukku by twisting and turning the dough and fry it in meduim hot oil until golden. 

Our delicious crispy Kai murukku is all ready to be enjoyed.
