Paal payasam Recipe / Rice Payasam

Payasam is a famous dessert of Tamil Nadu often served during weddings and functions, this is one of the easiest sweet recipes to make , there are loads of variation we can make, most famous among them is semiya payasam and rice payasam also known as pal payasam. Things required for this recipe is very few milk, rice and sugar. Just 5 minutes work and our delicious simple payasam will be ready in 30 minutesđź’–. Lets get started.

Quantity Ingredients for Paal Payasam Recipe
1/4 cup Basmati Rice ( or any kind)
1 literMilk (4 cups approximately) 
1/2 cupSugar
1 tbspGhee
3Cardamom
1 tbsp Cashews
1 tbsp Raisins

Cooking Method


Step 1) Wash rice and add it to a blender , give it a few pulses , break the rice into 2 to 3 pieces, do not powder them .


Step 2) Melt ghee in a pan or pressure cooker and and saute the rice for a minutes on low heat, then add milk , stir once. Cover the cooker and cook it for 20 -25 minutes, if you get whistle in between thats fine. If you are making it in open pot cook on medium for 25 minutes stirring occasionally.


 Step 3) After 25 minutes turn off the heat and let pressure subside, then add sugar and cook it for another 5 to 7 minutes. Finally add cardamom and some roasted nuts (cashews and raising in ghee) .
Mix well and turn off the heat.


 That's it our delicious rice payasam / milk payasam is ready to be enjoyed. We can also add condensed milk at the end to enhance the taste. Please do try this recipe at home and enjoy with friends and family. Happy Cooking !!!
