Chilli Chicken Recipe

Chilli Chicken is one of my favorite recipes,whenever I go to a restaurant the first thing I would order from the menu card will be chilli chicken Dry.I was 15 when I first tasted this recipe,from then on my crave for this delicious recipe never had a full stop,so I decided to make this at home .First attempt was a huge success and my family members loved it and the same day I was forced to make a second batch.Chilli chicken is an Indo-Chinese recipe in which chicken is coated with chilli sauce, soy sauce, pepper and has lot of flavoring in it.This restaurant style chilli chicken is my family favorite and I guarantee that you will also like this recipe.
We can make variations in this recipe ,we can make it semi gravy for naan, roti or fried rice by adding corn flour mixture or we can also make it dry and can serve as a starter both tastes awesome.The bell peppers and the onions added in this recipe will have a crunchy texture and tastes delightful.

1/2 kg Chicken (without bones)

For marination
2 TbspCorn flour
2 Tbsp All purpose flour / Maida
1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
1 tbspChilli Sauce
1 tsp Pepper Powder
1  Tbsp salt to taste

For Chilli Chicken Recipe
2 tbspOil
6 cloves Garlic
4 Dry Red Chilies
6Green Chilies
Onion (cubed)
1/2  Bell pepper (cubed)
1 tbspChilli Sauce
1 tbspSoy sauce
1 tbsp Vinegar
Few Spring Onions

Cooking Method

Step 1) Cut the chicken into medium sized cubes and add it to a bowl.Add corn flour, all purpose flour, chilli sauce, ginger garlic paste,egg, salt and pepper and mix it well with the chicken pieces.If the marination is too thin then add extra corn flour to it,make sure the masalas coat nicely won the pieces.Keep it aside and let it marinate for minimun 20-30 minutes.
You can also marinate it overnight for best results(keep it inside the fridge)
Brining the chicken pieces helps the chicken to tenderize


Step 2) Fry the chicken pieces in hot oil until all the sides are golden and crispy.Do not overcrowd the pieces,leaves some space between the pieces so that they cook uniformly and stay crispy.Fry them in small batches.


Step 3) To make chilli chicken in a wok / pan heat oil ( oil used for frying chicken) and add finely chopped garlic and saute for few second, once the raw smell of the garlic is gone add dry red chilies, green chilies, Onion cut into cubes and cubed bell pepper,add a tiny bit of salt and saute until the onions are translucent.Do not brown the onions, onions should still have some texture in it (this adds extra crunchiness and taste to the recipe)
once the onions are translucent add chilli sauce, soy sauce and vinegar and mix well

Step 4) After mixing all the ingredients add the fried chicken pieces and mix it well with the sauce mixture. Making sure all the pieces are nicely coated.Finally add some chopped sping onions for garnishing and turn off the heat.

  • For best Results You can marinate it overnight (keep it inside the fridge)
  • Brining the chicken pieces helps the chicken to tenderize 
  • to make the chilli chicken semi-gravy dissolve some corn starch in water and add it to the pan before adding the chicken pieces.Once the garavy thickens then add the chicken pieces and mix well.
  • Be careful while adding salt,because the sauces which we add has lot of salt in it so be check for salt and add if needed.

  5. In a bowl, mix the chicken pieces with soy sauce, chili sauce, ginger-garlic paste, salt, pepper, connections unlimited and beaten egg. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
