Steamed Masala Vadai

STEAMED MASALA VADAI

Masala Vada is a popular tea time snack. Everyone loves masala vada but we are all concerned about the amount of oil in these delicious snack. Hannah is sharing her method of enjoying these vadas without oil by steaming them thus making it delicious and healthy.

Ingredients:
Chennai Dal    1 1/2 cup
Peppercorns.  1/4 teaspoon
Onion Finely chopped 1/4  cup
Ginger Finely chopped 1 teaspoon
Cooking soda (optional)
Ghee 1 tablespoon
Lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon 
Curry leaves  1 Spring 
Red chillies 2 
Hing 1/2 teaspoon 
Salt  to taste

Tadka: Ghee  1 tbsp Mustard seeds ,1 tsp Curry leaves ,  ½ tsp Hing (asafoetida) , red chillies 2, Freshly grated coconut ,3 tbsp Salt , 1 /2 Lemon juice  juice 

Method: 
1. Wash and soak the channa dal in water for 3 to 4 hours. 
Drain the water and keep aside
2. In the mixie jar, add red chillies, onions, ginger, curry leaves, peppercorns, salt, channa dal and a pinch cooking soda and grind to a coarse paste.Remove the mixture into a bowl add little lemon juice and mix well.
3. Prepare small dumplings with the mixture and steam cook for about 10 min.
4. Once done,heat some ghee in a pan,add red chillies,mustard seeds,turmeric,hing,curry leaves,coconut grated,salt,lemon juice,coriander and saute for few minutes.
5. Add dumplings and toss well and serve hot
