is used to make puli saadam or puliodharai/ Tamarind rice .
Tamarind
rice is a popular dish of South India. It goes
well as a side dish with curd rice, dosai .It can be stored in the fridge
for 2 weeks .

Ingredients:
PODI SEASONING
Tamarind – 50 grams

FENUGREEK SEEDS 1 tsp
|
MUSTARD 1 tsp
|
Sesame oil 5o ml
|
WHITE SESAME SEEDS 1 tsp
|
URAD DHAL 3 tsp
|
Salt to Taste
|
CORIANDER SEEDS 2 tsp
|
CHANNA DHAL 3 tsp
|
Jaggery small pinch
|
RED CHILLIES 5
|
Red chillies 4
|
Asafoetida ½ tsp
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Curry leaves

Method:
1. Dry roast fenugreek seeds, coriander seeds and
red chillies until you get a nice aroma. Dry roast sesame seeds separately and
powder everything together.
2. Soak tamarind in hot water ( 2 cups) and extract 2 cups of thick
juice from it. Discard the pulp.
3. Heat oil and add the ingredients mentioned under seasoning and
4. When dal turns golden brown, add the thick tamarind extract, salt and podi powder let it boil on medium flame. At last add a small pinch of jaggery.
5. Switch off when it thickens and oil oozes out. Boil the rice and spread in a vessel add this pulikachal mix and enjoy tamarind rice.
The pulikachal is so good.
