Panagam recipe/ spiced Buttermilk

Panagam is a sweet tangy traditional recipe of south India made with jaggery , tamarind and other  flavors. 
Neer more is another tangy spice buttermilk recipe made with buttermilk, green chilies,ginger and more flavors. 




Serves          : 3
Prep Time   : 10 min
Cook Time  : 20 min

Quantity Ingredients 

For Panagam recipe
1/2 cup Jaggery
2 cup Water
1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
1/2 tsp dry ginger powder
pinch of Salt
pinch of edible Camphor(optional)
1 strand Tamarind
1/2 Lemon

For Buttermilk
2 cup thick Curd
3 cup Water
2 green chilies
1 inch ginger
1 tsp Cumin seeds
1 spring Curry leaves

For Tempering
1 tsp Oil
1 string Curry leaves
pinch of Asafoetida 

Cooking Method


Step 1) Into a mixing bowl add jaggery, water, cardamom powder,dry ginger powder,edible camphor,tamarind extract, pinch of salt, lemon juice and mix well.Pass it through a sieve and store it.

Step 2) Into a mixing bowl add thick curd and beat it nicely, then add water, crushed ginger, crushed cumin seeds, chopped green chilies, chopped curry leaves, chopped coriander leaves, required salt and mix well. Heat a pan and add oil, temper with mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida and add it to the buttermilk.

Our delicious traditional panagam and buttermilk are ready to be served. Happy Cooking!!!
