Tomato Chutney recipe

Tomato chutney is a very popular and a famous chutney in Tamil Nadu. No South Indian Break fast like idli , dosa, pongal is complete without this delicious chutney. My favorite combination is with kara paniyaram and idli. This is a basic Chutney recipe which is loved by all people and it tastes awesome.

Quantity Ingredients for making Tomato Chutney recipe
1 tsp Oil
2 large Tomato (or 4 small size)
4 Small onion
6 Garlic clove
2 dry red chilies
fewCoriander leaves

Salt to taste

Tempering
2 tbsp Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tspUrad dal
1 dry red chili
pinch of Asafoetida

Curry leaves

Cooking Method


Step 1) Heat oil in a pan and add small onions,then add cloves and give it a stir. Finally add chopped tomatoes, red chilies, required salt and cook until the juices from the tomatoes are reduced.Add few coriander leaves and turn off the heat.

Step 2) Transfer it to a blender and grind it smooth.

Step 3) Now to temper, heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilies, curry leaves, asafoetida and then add in the tomato puree from step 2 and cook for a minute and turn off the heat.

That's it our delicious tomato chutney is ready to be served with idli, dosa,etc... Happy Cooking !!!
