|Ingredients for Keerai Kootu Recipe
|Pearl Onions / Shallots
|Keerai / Spinach / Pasalai Keerai or arai keerai
|Thoor dal (200 g)
|Salt to taste
|Dry red chilies
|Pinch of Asafoetida / Kaayam
Step 1) Cook Dal:
Wash and cook dal in a pressure cooker with required water for 4 whistles. Make sure the dhal is mushy once cooked.
Step 2) In a pan heat oil and add Cumin seeds, garlic, green chilies, pearl onions and saute if for a minute. Then add tomato and cook for 2 more minutes.
Step 3) Now add in the keerai (spinach ) I have taken pasalai keerai today, we can also use arai keerai, both tastes excellent for this recipe. Cook for a minute and once the spinach becomes soft add sambar powder and turmeric powder and cook a little longer.
Step 4) Add the cooked dal and mix it well with the spinach. Add required salt and let it boil for a minute.
Step 5) Now the final step is to temper, heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, once the seeds pops add urad dal, cumin seeds, dry red chilies , curry leaves and a pinch of asafoetida. Turn off the heat and add it on the top od keeari kootu and mix well.
That's it our delicious keerai kootu is ready to be enjoyed with Rice, Dosa , Chapathi or Idli. You can also add ghee on the top for extra flavor and taste. Please do try this delicious keerai Sambar and enjoy with your friends and family.
