Tomato Curry / Thakkali Kulambu

Tomato Curry also known as thakkali kulambu is a simple yet delicious recipe which goes excellent with rice, Idli and Dosa. this recipe requires just few ingredients and can be made under 20 minutes. This tangy tomato curry is a go to recipe and can never fail on you. We can also use sambar powder or Kulambu powder to make this simple thakkali kulambu. Lets get started.

Quantity Ingredients for Thakkali Kulambu Recipe
2 tbsp Oil
1/8 tsp Mustard seeds
1/2 tsp Urad dal
Cinnamon
Cloves
1/2 tsp Fennel seeds
dry red chilies
1 springCurry leaves
3 cloves of Garlic
15 Shallots
3 large Tomatoes
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tspCoriander powder
1-2 tspChili powder

For Coconut paste
1/4 cup Coconut
1/2 tspCumin seeds
1/4 tspFennel seeds

Coriander leaves for Garnishing

Cooking Method


Step 1) Heat oil and temper with mustard , urad dal, cinnamon, cloves, fennel, curry leaves and dry red chilies. Then add in garlic and shallots and saute it for a couple of minutes.


Step 2) Now add in the tomatoes , required salt and cook until the tomatoes are nice and soft. Use fully ripe tomatoes , I have used 3 large tomatoes, if you are using small tomatoes use 4.


Step 3) In the meanwhile make coconut paste using grated coconut, cumin, fennel and grind along with some water and keep it aside.


Step 4) Once the tomatoes are soft add required water and let it boil for sometime. Finally add in the coconut paste and let it cook for 5 more minutes. Finally add coriander leaves for garnishing and turn off the heat.
