Sathu maavu / Homemade ceralc is a baby food recipe packed with nutrients and loads of healthy dhals and nuts. This is a great food for babies over 7 months of age. This powder stays fresh for 3 months in an air tight container. Lets see how to make this delicious baby food recipe.

Quantity | Ingredients for Sathu maavu Recipe |

1/2 cup | Rice (8 tbsp) |
1/4 cup | Black gram / Ulunthu (4 tbsp) |
1/4 cup | Green gram / Paasi paruppu (4 tbsp) |
1/4 cup | Skinless green gram (4 tbsp) |
1/4 cup | roasted channa dal (pottu kadalai) (4 tbsp) |
1/4 cup | broken wheat (4 tbsp) |
2 tbsp | Barley |
2 tbsp | Horse gram (kollu) |
1/4 cup | Almonds |
20 | Cashews |
20 | Pistachios |
4 | Cardamom |
Cooking Method |
Step 1)
Wash all the above mentioned ingredients separately for 3 times and spread it on a paper towel. I didnt wash roasted channa dal. Let it fan dry for 1- 2 hours.
Step 2)
Dry roast all the ingredients separately until its nicely roasted. Be very careful while roasting , do not burn them, it might taste bitter. Roast on low flame. Transfer it to a plate and let it cool.
Step 3)
Once cooled transfer it to a mixie jar and grind it to a fine powder. Sieve it through a wire mesh and grind the large particles again and follow the same.
How to prepare Sathu maavu?
In a mixing bowl add 2 tbsp of sathu maavu powder and mix with water and set it aside. Now to a sauce pan add some water and add a small piece of rock sugar(panam karkandu), once it is dissolved strain the sugar water and add it to the prepared sathu maavu mix, mix well and again add it to the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes or until the mixture thickens. Serve warm.
