Rava Vada Recipe

Rava Vadai also known as Sooji Vada is a simple and an easy recipe to make. This recipe does not require and soaking of dhal, all we need is 15 -20 minutes to rest the batter. This delicious crunchy vada is enjoyed at tea time as snack with some coconut chutney. This Rava Vada is such a simple recipe which makes us to crave for more.

Difficulty Spice Level

Quantity Ingredients for Rava Vada Recipe
1 cupRava (Sooji / Semolina)
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
10-15Pepper corns
1 inch Ginger
2Green Chilies
2 tbspCoriander leaves
few Curry leaves
1/4 tsp Asafoetida powder / Perunkaayam
1/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/2Onion (finely chopped)
1/2 cup Curd / Yogurt

Salt to taste

Oil for frying

Cooking Method


Step 1) In a mixing bowl combine Rava, Cumin seeds, Pepper, Ginger, green chilies, curry leaves, coriander leaves, asafoetida, baking soda, onion, curd and salt. Mix well to form a semi thick batter. Add more curd if required. Baking soda yields  in soft fluffier vadas. Rest it for 15 -30 minutes. 


Step 2) Now after resting grease your hands with oil and take a portion of the batter and make into vada shape with  a hole at the center.


Step 3) Heat on in a pan and fry the vada until it is golden and crispy. Make sure the oil is at medium heat to get even browning.


That's it our delicious Rava vadai also known as Sooji Vada is ready to be enjoyed with a cup of hot tea/coffee and coconut chutney. Please do try this recipe and share it with your friends and family
