Chicken Shawarma recipe

Chicken Shawarma is a popular street food recipe in India made with a special soft bread, pickled veggies and chicken and topped with a creamy garlic mayo. This is a fun easy to make recipe enjoyed by all.

Prep Time   : 20 min
Cook Time  : 25 min

Quantity Ingredients for making Chicken Shawarma

For Pita Bread
1 cup Warm water
1 tsp Sugar
2 tsp Yeast
1 tsp Salt
2 tbsp Oil
3 cup Maida(375 g)

For Vegetable Pickle
1,1,1 Carrot,Cucumber,Capsicum
5 mint leaves
1 large Lemon
1/2 tsp Salt

Pepper

For Chicken
1/2 kg Chicken
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp Cumin powder
2 tsp Chili powder
4 tbsp Curd

Salt and Pepper
1 tsp Lemon juice
3 tbsp  Oil

For Garlic Mayonnaise 
1/2 cup Mayonnaise
Garlic
1/4 tsp Pepper

For Assembling

sliced Onion

Cooking Method


Step 1) Into a mixing bowl of warm water add sugar and yeast. Keep it aside for 5 minutes. Into a bowl add maida, salt, oil and the yeast mixture and knead for 10 minutes. Cover and let it rest for 1.30 to 2 hrs.

Step 2) Once the dough doubles in size give it  a punch and divide into 10 portions and rest it for 5 minutes, now roll the balls and let it rest for another 5-10 minutes. Heat the tawa and cook until the pita bread is well cooked.

Step 3) Into a mixing bowl add julienne Carrot, cucumber and capsicum. Add some chopped mint leaves, lemon juice, salt and pepper, give it a mix and keep it aside.

Step 4) Into a mixing bowl add boneless chicken pieces and add curd, turmeric , chili powder, cumin powder, salt, pepper and lemon juice. Marinate for 30 minutes and roast it in oil until sides are browned. Cut the chicken into small pieces and keep it aside.

Step 5) Into a mixing bowl add plain mayonnaise, minced garlic, pepper and mix well.

Step 6) Take a pita bread and spread some garlic mayo and place the chicken at the center and then some pickle and some fresh onion and then some extra garlic mayo and fold it.

Our delicious Chicken Shawarma is all ready to be enjoyed.
