Chicken Momos recipe / Chicken Dumpling

Momos is an awesome street food recipe not only popular in Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan but also very popular in Tamil Nadu. This Chicken momos is very similar to Chinese dumpling, Its made with minced meat and finely chopped vegetables warped in a thin sheet and then steamed . This recipe is quite simple and easy to make. Lets start the preparation.

Quantity Ingredients for Momos Recipe
1 cup All purpose flour / Maida (130 g)
required salt
required water

For Stuffing
250gChicken 
1/2  Onion
1/2 cup Cabbage
1/2 cup CarrotOnions
1 clove Garlic 
1 inch Ginger
1/2 tsp Chili powder
1/4 tsp Pepper powder
2 tbsp Coriander leaves
2 tbsp  Gingelly Oil

Salt to taste

For Momo Chutney
Tomatoes
5 dry red chilies
5 Kashmiri chilies (deseeded) 
3 clove Garlic 
required Water
1/2 tsp Sugar

required salt

Cooking Method


Step 1) Into a mixing bowl add maida, salt and then gradually add water to form a soft non sticky dough, dough should not be very hard.After kneading cover with a wet cloth and set aside.


Step 2) Now in a separate bowl add minced chicken, finely chopped onion, finely chopped Cabbage, finely chopped Carrot, finely chopped Ginger, finely chopped Garlic, coriander leaves, chili powder, pepper, oil, salt and mix well. Sprinkle some water and mix again, adding water keeps the chicken juicy.


Step 3) Now dust the dough with some flour and spread it as thin as possible. With a help of sharp mouth cut it into small circles.


Step 4)  Now take a spoon full chicken and keep at the center and start folding from one end. seal both the ends and that's it.


Step 5) Arrange the chicken momos on a greased idli plate and steam it for 15 -20 minutes.


Step 6) For Momos Chutney:
Into a sauce pan add 2 tomatoes, chilies, kashmiri chilies, garlic, water and cook for 15 minutes. Once the tomatoes are nice and soft turn off the heat and alet it cool. Once cooled remove the skin of tomatoes and transfer it to a mixer jar. Add required salt, sugar and grind it to a smooth paste.
