Rava Idli Recipe / Instant Rava Idli

Rava Idli is a simple yet delicious breakfast recipe made with rava, This recipe is very easy to make can be made under 30 minutes because it doesn't require any fermentation or soaking or grinding .
This is a perfect breakfast recipe on a busy day which is healthy too. So lets see hoe to make this simple and easy Rava Idly.

Makes                      : 8 -10 Idlies

prep Time               : 15 minutes

Cooking Time         : 10 minutes

Quantity Ingredients for Rava Idli
1 Cup Rava / Sooji /Semolina (coarse) 
1 tbsp Oil
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Urad Dal
1 tsp Chana Dal
1 tsp Chopped Ginger
Copped Green Chilies

Chopped Curry leaves
Grated Carrot
1/2Onion
1/2 cupthick Curd / Yogurt
3/4 cup Water or as required
1 pinch baking soda

Salt to Taste

Coriander leaves

Cooking Method


Step 1) Tempering:
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, once the seeps pops our add urad dal and chana dal. Then add finely chopped ginger, green chilies and chopped curry leaves, give it a stir.


Step 2) Add grated carrot to it and saute it for 2 minutes. Then add onion and mix well. Finally add rava and roast it for couple of more minutes. Turn off the heat and transfer it to a bowl.




Step 3) Once the mixture cools down  add curd and required water and soak it for 10 -15 minutes . Do not use too much of water, idli becomes flattery.


Step 4) After soaking add required salt, Baking soda and chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Add water if required. I didn't add any water after soaking ( I have used 3/4 cup of water)
*Do not add too much water, batter should be semi thick.


Step 5) Grease the idli plates with some oil and pour a ladle full of rava idli batter and steam for 8 -10 minutes (place the idli plate into idli cooker only after the water starts to steams )


That's it our delicious easy and simple rava idli is ready to served with coconut chutney, Tiffen sambar and with a cup of hot coffee.
