Idli Podi Recipe

Idli powder is an excellent side for Idli and dosa which is little spicy and made with lentils. This idly Podi is made with Chickpeas and urad dal seasoned with hing, chilli and sesame seeds.This is one of the easiest way of making Idli podi and it tastes several folds.Whenever we are out of time this single podi with Gingerly oil is enough to accompany a plate of Idli.

Quantity INGREDIENTS
1/2 Cup Urad Dal / ulunthu 
1/4 Cup Split chickpea / Chana Dal / Kadalai paruppu
10-15 Dry red chilies
1 tsp Sesame Seeds
1/4 tsp Asafoetida / Hing / kaayam
1 strand Curry Leaves
2 tsp Oil

Salt to taste

Cooking Method


Step 1)
Roast Urad Dal (skinless black gram) and Chana Dal (Split Chickpeas) in oil on a medium heat until the Dal changes its color. Once the dal is halfway done add Hing, Sesame seeds, Curry leaves and red chilies and again roast it for a couple of more minutes. We will get a nice aromatic smell while roasting the ingredients.


Step 2)
After roasting all the ingredients allow the mixture to cook completely and then grind it to a fine to coarse powder according to your preference.I Love my Idly Power to be a little coarse so i always give it a few pulses to make it coarse.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 Cup Urad Dal / ulunthu
